Yoga maintains and increases the body’s health, strength, stamina and suppleness. It also, helps calm the nerves and soothe the mind, but more than this, yoga encourages us to look at the way we live and the way we interact with others. Janet Evans Yoga Groups have been very successful with two of the groups raising money for charities.

One of the main reasons people come to yoga classes is to retain and improve physical and mental health, but at the same time we realise conventional medicine and research into cures and prevention will always be necessary. We are, therefore, doing our little bit to help in this area.

The Hadley ‘Silver Wings’ Over 55’s Yoga Group has raised £1106.34.

In 2004, £50.00 went to Macmillan Cancer Relief, £55.50 to the Severn Hospice and £69.25 to Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

2005 sent £50 to the County Air Ambulance, £62 to the new Telford Hospice and £67.00 to East Shropshire Talking Newspapers for the Blind. (Pictured, a representative collecting a cheque from Janet and the group)

2006 a wonderful total of £70.50 was raised for the National Osteoporosis Society and £55.00 for the Hannah Parker Apeal Fund. The Autumn term sent £63.25 to the Alzheimers Society.

In Spring 2007 £56.00 was collected from the group (see picture) by the Wellington based charity Harvest Help, £65.12 was sent to the County Air Ambulance in the summer and £72.72 went to Leukaemia Research.

The entire fund of £170.00 raised in 2008 went to the Telford Severn Hospice and the 2009 fund of £200 went to the Haiti Crisis Appeal - the Wrekin Cottage Day Care Centre will gain from the 2010 collection.
