Sessions are very informal (some babies may want to feed / sleep / be cuddled, whilst others join in). Each session involves some calming breathing exercises, gentle movements for mum's strengthening and postnatal recovery, integrating baby with your exercising, movements together to help confident handling, baby stroking and some songs with movements for fun, ending with relaxing together in whatever position you are both happy with (this may mean whilst feeding). Afterwards you may want to stay for a drink and chat in the coffee bar downstairs.
The Benefits of Postnatal and Baby Yoga
Physical - In one short session, your baby is given as much physical activity as she would receive if you handled and carried her all day. All this activity will help her sleep more deeply. - Your baby's behaviour will be more 'settled'. - It provides a routine of activity through which you can engage constructively with your baby from 8 weeks.
Physiological/developmental - All your, and your baby's, bodily systems are stimulated, including the digestive and nervous systems.
Psychological - Postnatal and Baby yoga helps you and your baby get to know each other, enhancing communication between you. - Yoga helps to heal birth trauma; your baby will also be better equipped to deal with shocks. - Your baby's enjoyment of the positive stress of yoga will increase her ability to cope with future challenges. - Through the high quality of the attention she receives from her parents, your baby learns to interact with others and play actively. - The deep relaxation that is part of yoga helps parents cope with the stresses of early parenting. - A drink and chat allows a relaxed atmosphere for you to share worries and fears with other mums in your situation
